About
A Proven Leader, Committed to Taos’ Future
Experienced Leadership
Currently serving as Mayor Pro-Tem for the Town of Taos Governing Body since January 2024, Marietta brings unparalleled institutional knowledge to the table. Elected as a Town Councilor in March 2022, she has worked directly or indirectly with Mayors Lovato, Santistevan, Jeantete, Peralta, Duran, Cordova, Barrone, and Maestas along with numerous managers, planning directors, council members, and department heads.
As Councilor and Mayor Pro-Tem for the Town of Taos, Marietta serves on several boards that allow her to address critical regional issues and foster collaborative governance. Her board appointments include chairing the Taos Regional Landfill Board, where she oversees waste management operations and sustainability initiatives. Marietta also serves on the Taos County Cooperative Weed Management Area Board, addressing invasive species control and habitat preservation. Her economic development work extends through the North Central NM Economic Development District, where they strengthen regional economies and secure funding for local projects. Additionally, Marietta ensures financial accountability through her positions on both the Audit and Finance Committees. She’s also proud to contribute to public health and criminal justice reform through her service on the Taos Lead (Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion) Program Board, which provides alternatives to incarceration for non-violent offenders with substance use disorders.
Her collaborative experience extends beyond town government through her work with the E911 Finance committee via a Joint Power Agreement, the Taos Regional Landfill Board, and the Lodger’s Tax Advisory Board. This has given her unique insights into regional cooperation with other municipalities, organizations, and Taos County.
A Vision for Taos
As a working mother of five who has lived throughout the Taos area, Marietta understands the challenges facing local families. She brings not just government expertise but also life experience to her leadership approach.
Marietta is committed to fostering a healthy community environment, creating meaningful policies, and building strong connections with the citizens she serves. She values mentorship and encouragement, having supervised and developed a team of 10 employees during her tenure as Finance Director.
When not serving the community, Marietta enjoys the outdoor treasures of Taos – walking, playing golf, tending to her yard, and cherishing time with her grandchildren.
Marietta S. Fambro embodies the spirit of Taos – honoring our heritage while building a sustainable future for all. With her deep roots, proven leadership, and genuine care for this community, she is uniquely qualified to lead Taos forward as your next Mayor.
Deep Roots, Proven Leadership
Born in her great-grandmother’s home in La Loma (San Antonio Ln) to David and Susan Santistevan, Marietta was raised on Santistevan Lane off of Ranchitos Road. A proud 1979 graduate of Taos High School, Marietta’s connection to this community runs generations deep.
Her journey through Taos has come full circle – from raising her five children (Monica, Christopher, Francisco, Suzanne and Joshua) in Arroyo Seco, Des Montes, Ranchitos, and Canon, to now helping raise her grandchildren Beau and Theo.
A Lifetime of Service
Marietta’s work in the Taos community spans over 40 years – beginning with her high school job at the Trailways bus station (then owned by her cousin Jacque Chase). Her extensive career includes positions at CB Trujillo State Farm (now Wanda Lucero State Farm) and Kachina Lodge during the ownership of Betty Ditto and John Farrell.
For 24 years, Marietta dedicated herself to the Town of Taos Government, serving as grants administrator, accounting manager, and ultimately as Finance Director for 19 years. Under her financial leadership, the Town of Taos received the prestigious Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Award twice, along with multiple Budget Awards from the state of New Mexico.
Before her government service, Marietta gained valuable experience during 13 years at a local engineering firm and as the owner-operator of a local small oil change business for five years.
